‘It is hard to get used to listening again. The first few times I hear nothing but a rush in my ears, like holding up a shell.’

Megan Hunter, The End We Start From (2017)

Loss is an immersive sound installation about extinction, and the intimate, troubled relationship between humanity and nature.

We are living at a time of ecological catastrophe. An extinction phenomenon is taking place across the entire Earth. To what extent are humans aware of this memento mori? Is human civilisation prepared to traverse a mass extinction? Are individuals connected enough to planet, and people, to ride out this moment in geohistory? We are impotent in our individual entanglements, and our governments are devoid of proportionate action. LOSS does not propose answers, but presents a sonic sculpture and storyscape at the intersection between the natural-industrial / nature-human, communicating and experiencing human impact on the biosphere.
