Grand Re-opening

I designed the iconic stage set for KOKO Camden’s grand re-opening.

The brief was to create a balearic atmosphere for the elite guest area on the stage, featuring headline DJs, bottle service, and some of London’s most veracious clubbers.

The set used large, tropical plants to give a luxurious atmostpher. No plastic in sight. I commissioned an inflatable gold sphere, designed and fabricated elegant festoon drapes in an amber suedette, and an MCM-style back-bar for the guest area.

Firey LED lighting warmed the stage with an amber glow, uplighting plants using LED spots, and I positioned hot red neon tubes amongst the plants and props which amplified the luxurious party feel.

My inspirations for the grand opening party were in between a luxury Ibiza beach bar seen through the lens of a Derek Jarman film, and a seedy downtown disco that you might find in a David Lynch feature. My chosen aesthetic for the large tropical plants on stage was heavily inspired by the artist Cyprien Gaillard’s video installation Nightlife.
